Sponsor a child's education for only $150/year.
There are still 175 children who need sponsors, several of the students were unable to attend the initial photo session and will be added to the gallery later in the year. Your tax deductible tuition donation pays for teachers, support staff, school supplies, rent and utilities. General Fund donations cover incidentals, repairs, library books, new tables and chairs and much needed facility improvements.
The Christian Academy of Las Torres, CALT , is a Christian School for Children, from pre-K through 6th grade which was opened in 2008 to provide not only an education but a way out of despair for over 200 children in a poor neighborhood of Managua, Nicaragua. Through donations from people like you the school was able to begin helping these children discover that the way to a better future is through an education in both secular knowledge and the Christian faith. Your $150 per year donation guarantees a quality education for one more deserving child. Click here to donate.
Unexpected Blessings - A Feeding Program!!
Private schools do not qualify for feeding programs from the Nicaraguan government. That did not stop our school administrator, Jessica Oporto, from bravely petitioning officals to initiate a feeding program based on the poverty in the Las Torres neighborhood. Miraculously, a feeding program began providing food for CALT students in our pre-K through 6th grades in April 2010. God is so good to us! Parents now take turns daily preparing a whole classroom's one-day ration of rice and beans as part of CALTs Time for Tuition program.
The food items are provided by the government for our students each day they attend school. Time for Tuition is a CALT policy where a parent with a child attending our school donates 5 hours during the school year to the benefit of the school in appreciation of their childs free education.
Our next project is to build a food pantry since we are required to keep the food stored and locked separately from the school supplies. The estimated cost for this room is $200, click here to help pay for the food pantry.
NEW SCHOOL GATES to Keep our Children SAFE.
Thank you to those who contributed; we have changed the front gates! The open wrought iron gate is gone and is replaced with a solid metal gate that protects our CALT children from neighborhood gangs and occasional stray bullets.
The beginnings of a School LIBRARY was started this year and the children can now check out books for fun reading and learning. A special thank you to Sharon, Cynthia, Shirley, the Redeemer Lutheran Youth and our friends at Concordia Lutheran in Colorado for getting this project off the ground.

A Sponsor’s Testimonial:
I have been traveling to Nicaragua and the Las Torres neighborhood of Managua since 2005. Over the past five years, I have watched the impact of education in the lives of the children living in this extremely poor barrio. While there is still a long way to go, it is infinitely rewarding to witness the transformation of this area as the children get a chance to grow up with structure and direction. Even more important is knowing that they are in a Christian environment where for at least part of their day, they are surrounded by loving, faithful people. It has been an incredible blessing in my life to actually KNOW that the money I provide to support the children of CALT provides hope in a real place to real people. It is not just an advertisement on television. It is a place that I have visited and experienced. I have hugged the children. I have played soccer in the street. I know that CALT is making a real difference in the lives of children who really have nothing by American standards. I feel blessed for the opportunity to play a role in the lives of the children who attend CALT and pray that others will take my testimony to heart as they decide where they send their charitable dollars.

CALT directs donations from people like you and the collaborative efforts of multiple US based Christian supportive programs that help fund the cost of education from pre-K through grade 6 and assist in building caring long term relationships. Contact us by clicking here.
Amigos for Christ has taken CALT in as a partner and we are blessed to have this relationship with them. The Amigos' website describes their organization: We are a diverse and dedicated group, concerned about our less fortunate brothers and sisters. We cannot change the entire world, but we can help improve the world of some poor Nicaraguan people in need. We became aware of the grave living conditions in northwest Nicaragua during a mission trip to that area in 1997. Hurricane Mitch struck Central America on October 30, 1998. Almost 3000 people were killed around Chinandega, Nicaragua, and entire villages disappeared under volcanic mudslides. Since then, we have strived to settle and sustain these displaced families in safe, healthy communities. We plan and sponsor medical, housing, feeding, educational and clean water programs.
Our annual mission trips to Nicaragua provide an opportunity for committed individuals to share in advancing the quality of life for the needy there. We contribute, both by our labors and by the support of our mere presence.
